We are pleased to announce that James Slade has been elected to The College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects.

The Fellowship program was developed to elevate those architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession. Election to fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of architects as individuals, but also their significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level.

The 2016 Fellows will be honored at an investiture ceremony at the 2016 National AIA Conference in Philadelphia.

LAYING THE GROUNDWORK DEBUT

We are honored to celebrate the completion and publication of the design guidelines we co-authored along with Fiona Cousins, Principal Arup, Penny Hardy, Founder PS and the Design Trust: Laying the Groundwork: Design Guidelines for Retail and Other Ground-Floor Uses in Mixed-Use Affordable Housing Developments. Please join us for a lively panel discussion and presentation about this new initiative.

In the coming decade, thousands of new mixed-use affordable housing developments created through Mayor de Blasio's Housing New York plan will transform the cityscape. With the power of good design, this unprecedented building boom can help foster vibrant, mixed-income neighborhoods and attractive, fully leased commercial corridors.

Laying the Groundwork, developed by the Design Trust for Public Space and its multidisciplinary team of Fellows Fiona Cousins, Penny Hardy, Hayes Slade, and James Slade in partnership with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (NYC HPD), is a comprehensive set of guidelines for high-quality ground-floor design in mixed-use affordable housing developments. The publication invites developers and architects to think creatively about the ways buildings contribute to the life and health of neighborhoods encouraging attractive, active and resilient streetscapes. The publication includes clear objectives for effective, high-quality design and related references to consider exploring further.

EMERGING VOICES AT PARSONS SCE

We are presenting in the Architecture League Emerging Voices at Parsons event tomorrow. It promises to be a full evening!

Parsons School of Constructed Environments (SCE) and The Architectural League of New York tomorrow celebrate Parsons alumni and past and present faculty featured in the recently published 30 Years of Emerging Voices: Idea, Form, Resonance. Following an introduction by Anne Rieselbach, The Architectural League of New York Program Director, the event will feature a Pecha Kucha with Parsons SCE faculty and alumni included among the previous 30 years of Emerging Voices, and a panel conversation on emerging disciplinary and hybrid modes of practice with recent Parsons SCE graduates and current students, moderated by Alan Brake, US Editor at Dezeen.
